We just did a quick stop here and used this dock as the MACU slips were all taken. The dock itself is fine; however, the trees overhang the dock and you will get your mast in the branches in the middle section. This was the only available section and so we took out a fair bit of leaves and branches maneuvering in here. Would not be an issue for a powerboat. Great town access and a nice stop.

Jennette Brothers Bulkhead is a "Dock and Dine" free dock, sponsored by the Food Distributor of the same name. There is a waiver to be signed at the office and the request is for you to dine in town (honor system) in return for free overnight stay. The bargain was fine with us as there are several very good restaurants within easy walking distance. Jennette Brothers is on the north bank immediately after passing through the bridge and can be identified by the large "Dock and Dine" sign on the bulkhead. Water depth is 15 feet at the dock. Tie up to the pylons as there are no cleats provided and, if you carry fender boards, this would be a good place to use them.

The bulkhead is in very good shape but there were boards on the dock that should be replaced so be careful. The dock is well lit but there are no water, power, or trash receptacles. The main gate is closed and locked after hours but there is a smaller gate that "appears" to be locked but you can get in and out after hours. The dock is right next to the Rte. 158 Bridge so there is road and bridge noise to contend with. A larger problem is the three refrigerator food service trucks backed up to a loading platform that is a hundred yards from the dock. The noise from their compressors was remarkable and ran well into the early morning.

We ate breakfast at the Colonial Café. It was awesome.

Dock was nice. 2 blocks to town. NOTE! GATE to exit/enter LOCKS at closing time (5pm).. Could not find an alternative way out.. Dock is in great condition! Obviously you will hear the traffic in bridge, but settles at night.

We stayed here one night. It is right next to the bridge. The wooden walkway is lighted & the gates are locked at night. We felt safe here. There are welcome packets that explain their rules & contain a waiver for you to fill out & hand in at the office. The man working there was nice & said it was okay that we had dogs. There is a nice park nearby and across from that is a free museum that we enjoyed visiting.

A free dock at a food distribution company. Room for about 4 boats with trees overhanging. Safe, secure, sign a release in the office and only request is to patronize a local restaurant. A very nice stop next to the Elizabeth City bridge. No power, water or trash disposal. Well protected from bad weather.

If the Christian University dock is full, this is an excellent alternate choice. You have to check in and sign a waiver of liability in the Jennette Brothers' office, and they do ask that you spend money in a local restaurant as a condition of dockage (on the honor system, of course), but a free dock is a free dock!
