We pulled in tight near the North entrance to Big Majors Spot (24°11'28.1"N 76°27'28.4"W) on Jan. 30, 24. We had good wake and wind protection. Great location to get the dog to shore and easy dinghy ride into the Yacht Club. We were getting some wind from the west.

We've anchored in Big Majors several times during the 2023 season. Our anchor spots have been towards the North, but between the two WG anchorage markers. The entire Bay of Pigs has excellent holding in sand. Depths tend to be in the 2-4 meter range and are accurate, if not conservative, on most charts. This tends to be a fairly busy anchorage for the winter season, often with 30-70 boats. There is very good protection from the prevailing easterlies. There is some swell from the south as winds turn SSE. We have noticed current further north in the anchorage but usually, wind prevails over current.

There are two nice beaches in the northern section and pig beach to the south. It's about 1.75 to 2 miles to the Staniel Cay Yacht Club Dinghy Landing from the northern part of the anchorage. Aliv and BTC is present in the anchorage. We found them to be very very slow this year during most normal awake hours, likely due to network congestion caused by the large number of cruisers and residents streaming. Service improves in the middle of the night. Listen to VHF CH 68 at 8am for Cruisers Net. Many in the anchorage monitor Ch 68 and Ch 16 24/7.

Here's some drone photos of the anchorage looking at this northern section:

There are additional photos of the area on our BreatheSailDive FB page including on land at Staniel Cay, the beaches, and snorkeling Thunderball Grotto, Smuggler Plane and South Reef.
