Vergennes, VT
Vergennes, known as the “Smallest City in the USA,” with 2,500 residents, goes out of its way to attract boaters. While it is a bit of a hike up a steep hill from the docks to the main street, there are pharmacies, restaurants, a Post Office, a library and other amenities.
The superb Lake Champlain Maritime Museum is located here, making a worthy side trip. This nautical archeology museum finds, identifies and preserves more than 100 sunken ships from the 1700s and 1800s. This is one of the lake’s premier boating stops.
