If you are focused on visiting Annapolis, you will need a good dinghy with a good motor to make it work. If you are just passing through or in need of a place to hide from weather, this is probably one of the better anchorages in the Chesapeake. Enter the lake in a well-marked but narrow channel with 9 foot MLW approach, basin, and anchorage icon depth. After passing Green 5 turn to port and travel east to the anchorage icon where there is good holding in mud. Shallow depths mean that not much rode needs to be let out so you can probably fit three boats at anchor without interfering with the locals while leaving a clear path for traffic. We spent a very quiet and restful night here. Cellular reception was very good and we had excellent speeds on our T-Mobile gateway.
Speaking of the locals, they constitute some of the very wealthy of Annapolis. The shores of the lake are either occupied by very nice houses and smaller marinas with boats on docks and on moorings in front of almost every house. We did not try to go ashore. You do need to be self-contained in this anchorage. One thing that surprised us was the number of local boats that simply ignored no wake courtesy. We were passed by everything from dinghies to 40' trawlers throwing wakes. Fortunately there was not that much boat traffic and it died down with the setting of the sun. We spent nice quiet night here and left in the morning. We would definitely use this anchorage again but, if we wanted to go ashore in Annapolis, we would make a reservation downtown at one of the many excellent in-town marinas.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

Narrow channel leading to/from Lake Ogleton.
All private homes bordering this very safe anchorage. Yes, in warm season there are water skiers, tubers, and jet skier; so what!? They are(to me) fun to watch!
Nights calm.
An excellent spot as an overnight "jump-off point" in a very safe anchorage coming from Baltimore to Solomon's Island or reverse.
If you have a powered dinghy, it is about 3 miles to downtown Annapolis.
