It's all tight, lots of boats thus lots of opportunity for mishaps...but it's better than anchoring in the entrance open water.

Had shore access, pet friendly, stores and shopping nearby. Wind protection was good plus it really was nice what wind we got because it cooled off our boat at night. There were some boats from locals that would go in and out of the harbor that cause wake but for the most part it was fine. The marina was very kind and the people who lived there were a nice community. I would recommend stopping here as the cost a night was reasonable and plenty of things to do.

It is usually very crowded and although the holding is good if you have good ground tackle, some of the boats do not and therein lies the problem. I've anchored here many times and usually it's okay but in a wind change with gusts, you can find a boat dragging into you. It's happened to me twice in five years. Also, a couple of years ago, the city marina raised all the rates for shore access to the same as for a mooring so if you want shore access, you don't save any money by anchoring.
On the other hand, it has excellent protection from wave action and if you don't need shore access, then it's cheap. The anchorage area extends closer to the southern shore than shown on charts, almost to the green stuff.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer
