The closer you get to the pier, the more protection there is from wind and wake, but it does get shallow very close in. I'm not sure, but I think I saw the top of a wrecked sailboat poking out of the water right off the end of the pier. Good holding. Far enough away from the ICW's main channel that wake is not an issue. Dinghy dock was in good shape; I did not see the barnacles the description referred to. The park at the start of the pier is posted NO DOGS, but there's plenty of places to walk them along the road. It's a short walk to some restaurants, a market, and the beach. (The beach is also posted NO ANIMALS; this is Florida, after all.) A good overnight stop with easy access to land. Bonus was the ability to see a SpaceX launch. I'd come again.

Good hold in sand with 8 ft depths. Easy in and out. Not protected from west. Easy to get to shore with dingy and walk the town. Some restaurants available, post office, police, fire. Park at the pier for the pups.
