As you approach shore you will find deeper water with depths up to 15'. Turn south and head back towards the bridge until you reach appropriate anchoring depth. From the north turn east 0.1 miles south of Red "8" and head towards shore through a cut in the spoils bank towards deeper water close to shore and then turn south in 15' mlw towards the anchorage. A good depth contour chart will help. There is 14' mlw at the anchorage icon with good wind and wave protection from the Northeast around to the West. Protection from the West through North is only fair. There is a tidal current running through the anchorage so be prepared to swing. The most protected spot is at the anchorage icon but there is plenty of space going north with good holding in sand along the east edge of the spoils bank going north up the river for one half mile. The further north you go the less protected the anchorage becomes but the less noise you will get from bridge traffic. There were six boats in this area overnight and, although we had a wind shift from South to Northwest during the night, we were still comfortable at anchor and not bothered by wakes from passing boats. Cell service was excellent for the big three. Shore access is at the Palm Beach Municipal Marina a third of a mile southwest. We anchored during the Palm Beach In-water Boat Show so this area was filled with show boats and inaccessible. It is reported that, outside of the show, this is an excellent point for going to shore for provisioning and dining. This was actually one of the better choices for anchorage in downtown Palm Beach and was not overcrowded. I will definitely come back to this as an in transit anchorage when needed.
