Thornton Point anchorage actually extends from the point one mile in on the west side of the bay back as much as two miles to the back of the bay where it appears to continue around to the east side of the bay as well. There are no depth issues at all entering the well marked channel and none of concern approaching any of the potential anchoring spots. We anchored 300 yards south of the point in 18 feet of water to clear several mooring balls that were closer to land. Protection from south, west, and northwest winds in this spot was excellent. In this location were exposed to east winds with a half mile fetch but, if we had been concerned about winds from that direction we could have simply moved further into the bay. Boat traffic and wakes were not bad during the evening and dropped off to nothing after dark. The south part of the bay seems to be quiet at night. Holding was excellent in mud/sand.. The anchor set immediately and held firm during backdown. There is no access to land for pets in the area although there are several marinas a mile to the north that might accommodate. Cellular reception was good to excellent for AT&T, Verizon, an T-Mobile.
