This is an excellent easy-off overnight stop on the Potomac. We arrived on a lovely Friday afternoon and were surprised at how little traffic there was on the creek. We were also surprised at the lack of crab pots. You need to pay attention on at the creek entrance as it requires a well-marked "jog" as you enter. Approach depths were 16 feet mlw, there was 14 feet at the anchorage icon, and 14 feet over a half mile up the creek from the icon where we finally anchored. There is room for any number of boats in the anchorage. Holding is excellent in sticky mud and wind/wave protection is very good from all directions except the North where it is only good. There is minimal current so you will swing with the wind. We could not believe how quiet the anchorage was and were delighted by the absence of crab pots.

If you have a dinghy the Coles Point Tavern (about 2 miles distant around the point) has a dock and is reputed to have amazing food. Shore access is possible at the small launch in Branson Cove as well as a couple more restaurants. Any sort of shopping will require a car. One thing we found peculiar is that, with houses all along the shore and docks everywhere, there was very little boat traffic on a lovely Friday night and only one early Saturday morning boat leaving to go fishing. Cellular reception for ATT and Verizon was poor at 1-2 bars, T-Mobile was fair at 2-3 bars.

Great place to hang out. Wind protection is awesome! Coles Point Tavern not a bad place to have dinner. The scenery is so beautiful. I am going back.

The area is beautiful. Great location to avoid wind and rough seas. Some great places to eat with in a couple of miles by land. Try it out.

This place is beautiful and majestic. Great wind protection and peaceful. The people in the community are so friendly. The food at the Colespoint Tavern is out of this world. If you want to go to the Caribbean without all the boating miles go to the Lower Machodac.
