Hurricane Boatyard is 15 miles off the AICW track up the Bay River, almost all the way into Bayboro, the county seat of Pamlico County where several offshore fishing vessels call home. The biggest problem navigating up the Bay River is avoiding crab pot buoys in season. The easiest way to do this is make sure to stay in the center of the channel all the way up the river with a minimum of 8 feet of water up to the yard. Use the "Bay River at Bayboro" NOAA water gauge if you have a question about water depths.

Hurricane Boatyard is a typical DIY Boatyard. It has a 50 ton TravelLift and will take boats with drafts up to 5 feet. There is also over 200 feet of wet slip space available with 8 feet of water at the dock with 30 amp power and water. The docks are in reasonable condition but are showing some age. Yard rates are reasonable. The yard has a small chandlery, clean restrooms and shower and even has skilled help available at reasonable rates. Outside vendors are also allowed on the property to assist in repair work. We called with a mechanical issue and the yard found space in the water for us for a couple of days to get our problem taken care. They were very accommodating.

Hurricane Boatyard is also a Caterpillar Diesel engine dealer so if you have Cat issues, this would be a possible source of materials and repairs.

If you are planning to get some work done it would be best to reserve in advance. The yard is quite full of both sail and power boats with various types of repairs in process. Work rules are reasonable. The yard is fenced in and has keypad entry for security in off hours. If your vessel is over 40 feet it would be best to make sure that the yard will be able to accommodate you appropriately.

Great DIY boatyard. They can also provide full or partial service if required. Good clean showers and a small but well stocked chandlery.
