- Description:
There are two spots where boaters can anchor to the north of the Loggerhead Channel that are similar in characteristics. One is due south of Gumelemi Cay, a small undeveloped island that sports a wooden tower in the center, and the other is northwest of the entrance to Bakers Bay Marina. Both offer reasonable protection from northeast through east winds and the holding is very good in deep sand. If you decide to anchor be prepared to endure continuous wakes from vessels of all sizes ranging from jet skis to megayachts. Traffic will run well into the evening and will begin again at first light.
DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
