Farmer's Cay Airport Anchorage

  • Lat / Lon: N 23° 57.332' / W 076° 19.515'
  • Depth: 7'-9'
  • Tide: 2.5'-3.0'
  • Description:

The anchorage is along a stretch of rocky beach on the southwest corner of Little Farmers Cay between the southernmost extent of the cay and the threshold of the Farmers Cay airstrip. The holding is good, and it is a viable place to ride out periods of strong east winds, but it is not a place you want to be caught in for a cold front as the beach becomes a lee shore and vessels along it will be battered mercilessly by chop blowing in from the banks.  One should note that the Farmers Cay electric generator as well as the local dump are inland of this shoreline hidden by the casuarina trees. Light sleepers may be bothered by the drone of the generator but during the winter months most of the noise will be absorbed into the ambient wind noise. You will notice its absence more when it stops working than its presence when running. Under certain wind conditions there will also be the ripe odor of the landfill that will waft into the anchorage. It is not strong, but it will have you checking your stores to find the source of the smell.

DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
