Funny Cut

  • Lat / Lon: N 27° 13.009' / W 078° 20.263'
  • Depth: 8'-10'
  • Tide: 2.0'-2.5'
  • Description:

The Funny Cut anchorage is located just west of the wreck of an oil rig that was left over from oil drilling explorations that took place in the 1980s. Oil was never found but the wreck, which is grounded in the shallows adjacent to a small cay, is a good landmark to identify the anchorage.

The anchorage is open except for wind from the north to northeast so it should be used only in settled conditions with winds under 15 kts or when the winds are not likely to shift out of the north to northeast If the winds shift out of those directions and rise above 15 kts, an uncomfortable chop will build rapidly due to the long fetch of waves crossing the banks and reflecting on the rocky shoreline of Little Grand Cay.

DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
