Sandy Point (Outside)

  • Location: Great Abaco Island
  • Mile Marker: 5 feet
  • Lat / Lon: N 26° 01.484' / W 077° 24.240'
  • Description:

Wide open sandy bank with good holding and reasonably-sheltered from east winds and waves (limited fetch). Beach is excellent for shore access. A grocery/general store is about a block away to the east. Nancy's Seaside Inn is a block to the north and is a (possibly the only) local watering hole. Deloris makes great fried chicken and broiled lobster and fantastic cole slaw. A wonderful Jamaican lady. The owner (Nancy's son?) was quite welcoming. They mentioned a gas station nearby, so fuel may be an option if you need to top up a jerry can or two. The crew launches for Disney's private island (about 10 miles to the NE) make routine trips from the pier about 400 feet south of the concrete government pier. One made a couple of close passes, but the other two or three stayed farther away; their wakes were inconsequential. Aside from them, there was minimal traffic, but this was fairly early in the season (early Feb, 2023).

DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
