- Description:
In settled conditions the Highbourne North Anchorage is in a narrow bay that provides a relatively secluded well protected anchorage that provide close proximity to the coral heads on the Exuma sound side of Highbourne Cay. The anchorage offers good protection from the SE-SSW up to 15 knots. When the wind is in other quadrants there is a swell that reaches into the anchorage. When the winds are below 15 knots the swell is generally acceptable, but when the winds pick up the swell increases in height and frequency rapidly. In a NW-NE wind the anchorage becomes untenable over 20 knots and an alert skipper will do anything in their power to avoid such a situation.
DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
