- Description:
This is the first place upstream from the Olmstead Lock where there is good holding in good water with an easy in and out in case you arrive late or even after dark having been delayed at the lock and just looking for an easy hook set and snooze. Turn off channel at Red buoy at mm 959.1 and head directly for LDB on the Kentucky side of the river with water gradually shoaling from 25 feet as you approach the shore a half mile off the channel. Anchor in selected depth with less than 1 mile per hour current holding you in position. We anchored 200 yards from shore in 12 feet of measured water with good holding in sand. Chart depth in the spot was about 7 feet. There was wind protection from the SE through West otherwise exposed to the river. Cellular reception fair (T-Mobile 1 bar) to good ATT and Verizon 2-3 bars. Good for an overnight when no bad weather expected.
