Whites Bay
- Location: Lake Ontario
- Lat / Lon: N 43° 51.928' / W 076° 13.879'
- Depth: 20 feet
- Tide: 6 feet
- Description:
Approach from west and anchor in 20' of water for a flat clay bottom. You can move in closer but the bottom turned to rocks in shallower water. We decided to anchor on the flat and let out 100' of chain. Anchor did not set immediately but when it did it held well (Rocna 40kg anchor) even during an evening thunderstorm with 30+ mph winds. Anchor and chain took a while to clean when we raised the hook in the morning. Wave and wind protection from the East all the way around to the North. Quiet! We were the only boat in the bay. A couple of boats with water skiers and a jet ski went home before dark and, with the exception of the storm, we had a quiet night. Good Cellular reception for ATT, Verizon and T-Mobile.
DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
