Old Bight

  • Location: Cat Island
  • Lat / Lon: N 24° 13.941' / W 075° 24.082'
  • Depth: 8'-12'
  • Tide: 2.5'-3.75'
  • Description:

The large bay at the south end of Cat Island between Hawksnest Point and Bone Fish Point is divided into Old Bight in the south and New Bight in the north.

While it is possible to anchor anywhere along the shoreline of the bay the usual anchorage is between the Public Beach and the Rollezz Beach resort. There is good protection from ENE –S and the holding is excellent in clear sand.

The Rollezz Beach resort welcomes boaters to dinghy into the beach and enjoy their facilities which include a beach bar, a restaurant, and a good assortment of water toys. If you wish to dine, it is a good idea to call ahead and make a reservation. If there are several vessels anchored off the resort, the owners of the resort Carl Rolle and his wife Yvonne, encourage boaters to organize an impromptu potluck at their tiki hut. Please call ahead to coordinate +1 242 557-0005 or +1 242 525-4588.

From the public beach Fortunes Service Station and the Government Health Clinic are short 0.50 walk up the access road.

DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
