Tobermory - Big Tub Harbour
- Location: Georgian Bay
- Lat / Lon: N 45° 15.353' / W 081° 40.736'
- Depth: At least 8 feet
- Description:
Go to the far end of the long harbor--past the Coast Guard station and Big Tub Resort--to drop anchor. Mooring balls in at the westerly end are for charter dive boats; you are asked not to use them. The bottom rises quickly here, and it is inadvisable to anchor past the mooring balls: Watch for the cautionary signage advising where you can anchor. It is possible to view the remains of two wooden wrecks on the rocky bottom from your dinghy.
Check with the local Parks office for info on diving restrictions. One needs permission before diving and can only visit most of the wrecks on certain days of the week.
DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
