Grand Island-Murray Bay
- Location: Lake Superior
- Lat / Lon: N 46° 28.145' / W 086° 39.310'
- Depth: 10 to 12 feet
- Description:
Choose Trout Bay or Murray Bay to anchor, depending on the wind direction. Murray Bay, on the south side of the island, affords good protection, with the best anchorage off the north side. Note that there is a shipwreck in the eastern end of the bay. A buoy marks it, and on a calm day, it can easily be seen. The waters around Munising and Grand Island are designated the Alger Underwater Preserve, and Scuba divers congregate here to search out the wrecks lying on the bottom.
DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
