Little Darby Island

  • Location: Southern Exumas
  • Lat / Lon: N 23° 51.404' / W 076° 13.707'
  • Depth: 6'-8'
  • Tide: 2.5'-3.0'
  • Description:

Between Little Darby Island and Darby Island there is a small bay that offers reasonable protection from easterly winds; however it is exposed in all other directions. Much of the bay is filled with a shallow bank that dries or nearly so at low tide. The anchorage is perched on the edge of the bank. In settled conditions the anchorage is a decent place to spend the night as it is far enough away from Rudder Cut to not be affected by the surge that sweeps into the cut. In heavier weather vessels can work their way into the bay, by following a deep channel of water leading towards the docks of a research facility on the island. There is sufficient water for vessels drawing as much as 6.5’ inside however there is very little swinging room, and two anchors would be recommended.

DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
